There are 3 primary motions, "downstroke", "tap" and "upstroke"

• The "downstroke" of the hand corresponds to the "heel" stroke with the foot.
• The "tap" stroke of the hand is analogous to the "ball" stroke of the foot.
• The "upstroke" of the hand is equal to the "toe" stroke of the foot.
• In the hand, a downstroke or a tap can be played "open" handed or "closed" handed.
• An upstroke executed by the hand will always be "closed" handed.
• In the foot, "heel down" for downstroke or tap correlates to the closed hand motion.
• An upstroke executed by the foot will always lift the heel.
